John's Trip Comments
A special drive that leads you to mountain tops and back again to a sea level less than the Pacific. The mountains just east of San Diego are very scenic, but the Salton Sea stands out above most during the drive. Here the smooth waters are almost hypnotizing and the day we were there the waveless effect was mesmorizing.

John`s Recollections
Mountain range to the east of San Diego does not have the height of the Rockies and it descends rapidly to a point that the Salton Sea is below the level of the Pacific. Can remember vividly that the sea was like glass, so smooth and still that distances could not be interpreted. After passing the Colorado river and nearing Lauglin the landscape became more mountainous.

On the road again, past the Salton Sea
Looking forward to the casinos in Laughlin, Nevada but the drive from San Diego had more that a equal share of sights along the way. The mountain ranges just east of San Diego had views south into Mexico, back to San Diego and soon after the Salton Sea was in our sights. Never have I had that feeling of being in an area so quiet and still. Hardly a ripple on a very large body of water that is below sea level.
