Long Island

Long Island is famous for its` fishing and diving excursions. There are however many other sites to review while there, including finding out where Christopher Columbus first landed in the Bahamas, wading in the ocean pools of the Atlantic and even driving the length of the Island to view many of the historical colorful churches. The least populated island on this mini vacation. Prime tourism activities center on fishing and swimming with the sharks, yet several sights visited were exceptional.


The
Drive along the central highway has many locations to stop and see the beautiful scenery. One item especially to note is the churches that have been built decades before with pastel colors and unique architecture. Another item of interest may be Dean's Blue Hole that is the world's deepest known blue hole with seawater. It plunges 202 metres (663 ft) in a bay west of Clarence Town on Long Island, Bahamas.

The Ocean Pools close to Stella Maris Resort made for an exception day of warm water beaching without the Atlantic waters.

Christopher Columbus actually climbed this small hill and the marker that depicts his arrival as well as outstanding scenery made the short bicycle drive well worth the visit.

Stella Maris Resort provides good comfort for guests that are mainly visiting to fish and swim with the sharks.
