John`s Comments
Quite the story here. Legend has it that the altar was saved from the pirate Henry Morgan during the sacking of the original Panama City when a priest had it painted black, hiding its true value. Compared to many of the buildings in the area, this one has been well restored and it provides a fitting background to the golden altar. Of all items in Casco Viejo, this was the most impressive, especially when one takes consideration of the age.
John`s Recollections
Going just to Casco Viejo is quite the thing, but when there, no matter what your religion is, a visit to some of the reconstructed churches should be attempted. This church is a must visit, as not only has the church been fully restored, but the altar itself (that is made with gold) now has a very noticable glow. Read the supplied documentation and view the splendid results. You will partake in a history of years ago.
