New River Gorge & Bridge

West Virginia, United States

A rugged, white water river, flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent

John's Comments I find this to be the right spot and time to take a break from the drive down to Florida. Scenery is terrific and the half hour to an hour stop is just about the right time to rest the eyes and continue the journey. When there, and if you have the time, take the stairs down to a lower level where one can get a good view of the river, bridge all at the same time.
John`s Recollections

Maybe it is just the right time for a stop, or whatever, but here is one place that continues as a pit stop for myself. Viewing the displays and then walking down the stairs (over a hundred of them) to see the bridge and the river below is about the right time to get off the road prior to continuing on.

John`s Winter Recollections

Yes, it is still open and the snow on the ground did not really change the views of the area. Colder at this time of year, however, the beauty is still there.
